Directed Study: Chair
During my Directed Study, I was tasked with designing and making a function chair prototype. As a prototype is an experimentation iteration, I wanted to take my work further and build a final ready to use version of my design. Participating alongside the ARCC 3902 Chair Building Class, I was immersed in aspects of the design that included ergonomics, esthetics, practical parameters and material explorations. Over the course of the semester I would build a Lounge Chair that changed over two iterations of design. The Final Chair was chosen for the simpler construction and esthetics. The Final Chair was built entirely from Walnut, was finished with one coat of Walnut oil and one coat of clear coat varnish.
